I arranged my trip to Glasgow around the date of Jay Brannan's concert. It was nerve-wracking to find a concert venue in a city I had never been to before, especially since I hadn't even bought the ticket(-_-). Fueled by an inexplicable sense of optimism, I trusted Google Maps and proceeded. Unfortunately, after walking for over 30 minutes to the outskirts of Glasgow, I discovered I was in the wrong place 🥲
It was cold and tough, but having a smartphone meant I didn't need to ask anyone for directions, and I hadn't asked anyone at all until then. Finally, I started asking for directions. It turns out Oran Mor was a famous place. All the Scots nearby knew it. "See that spire over there? Just head that way!" Sadly, that was a place I had passed earlier...
I don't know why, but I really liked The Glasgow Necropolis. It's strange to like a cemetery, isn't it? Thinking about death makes you more humble about life. Also, the feeling of being there while listening to Mogwai's music was just nice. The view of Glasgow city from this place is also spectacular.
I went to a hostel in downtown Glasgow without a reservation, and the kindness of the cleaning staff really enhanced my impression of the city. I had overslept, but she told me it was okay and encouraged me to rest more while she cleaned another room first. I was really touched.
After wandering for a while, I found a cafe near Oran Mor. Since there was still some time before the concert, I had a coffee there. The atmosphere of the local cafe was so pleasant that I still think about it from time to time.
At Jay Brannan's gig in Oran Mor, I accidentally walked into his dressing room and saw him talking with a few fans. Our eyes met, but since I'm quite shy, I immediately closed the door and slipped away.
